My journey to creative design in woodworking has been long and indirect. I worked in commercial carpentry late 60s and later did my own, primarily cabinets,  counters and doors. In the late 80s, I made furniture, mostly tables, and desks, a few chairs as a hobby for friends and family.

I spent several years deeply involved in other pursuits, but by the time COVID restrictions were lifted, I decided woodwork design was my final passion. I studied the work of George Nakashma and Wharton Esherick for 2 years and apprenticed whenever someone needed a hand.

In 2023 when I started designing and exploring new woods, I used a lot of what I learned from Nakashima’s book The Soul of a Tree. Perhaps the most powerful idea I adopted is to us live edge wood in as many projects as possible. I craft most pieces to order, and many of my designs can be customized to fit a customer’s requirements.

In the soul of every tree there is a one -of- a -kind masterpiece if you have the desire to search for it, and the patience and skill to develop it.

Simple made elegant.
